Translator's annotation

Doc Hay's writing: 天祝王 / Pinyin: Tiān Zhú Wáng
There are other instances at Kam Wah Chung of 王 being used in the place of 黄 when the characters are handwritten. This is probably because they sound very similar. See also the entry for Ma Huang (KWC2007.1.144).

The following is in the KWC museum description of the item:
"Contents inside are "Bambusae concretio silicea". It is a small hard substance Look like little pebbles found in the joints of large bamboo. Medicinally the Chinese regard it to be expectorant, refrigerant, and sedative. It is prescribed in the treatment of convulsive and epilectic diseases of children, coughs, insomnia, apoplexy, and paralysis. (from "Chinese Medical Herbs In the Kam Wah Chung Collection"). (TC)"
Dr. Ger translation: (T'ien-chu-huang) - "Bambusae concretio silicea"
On the side of the canister, there are another Chinese characters Zhu Li / 竹力, which is also used by Doc Hay to indicate Zhu Li / 竹沥 (Bamboo Sap). This could be a confusion over characters because Zhu Li is different from Tian Zhu Huang.
