Bensky (2004) Pg. 250-251: “In the vernacular, it is usually referred to as clown cow seed (丑牛子 Chou Niu Zi). The second of the earthly branches uses the same character that is used for clown, ugly and evil (丑 Chou)… the black morning glory seeds (黑丑 hei chou) were often preferred to the white seeds (白丑 bai chou),....nowadays there are usually mixed. When both types are desired, one can specify black and white clowns (黑白丑 hei bai chou) or two clowns (二丑 Er Chou)."
